The Notion of Veto Number for Distributed Agreement Problems
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper introduces the notion of veto number that can be associated with agreement problems. An agreement problem has veto number l when l is the minimal number of processes that control the allowed decision values, i.e., if each of them changes its mind on the value it proposes, then it forces deciding on a different value. The paper presents and investigates this concept. Key-words: Agreement problem, Asynchronous distributed system, Consensus, Distributed algorithm, One shot problem, Process crash, Failure detector.

VETO! A Peer-to-Peer Paradigm Based Medical Knowledge Management System
Insufficient knowledge of the patient history leads to severe medical, ethical and economical problems [5]. Adverse drug reactions (ADR) or repeated examinations are well-known results. The paper presents a blueprint of applying the VETO! principle to medical knowledge management. This helps to reduce such errors. VETO! is a system that exploits distributed knowledge of the patient record while...
متن کاملRatification and Veto Constraints in Mechanism
This note points out some restrictions imposed by the notion of ratification. This notion is widely used in the mechanism design literature that assumes that each agent has a veto power. We exhibit allocations that are not ratifiable and nevertheless can be implemented through a mechanism that gives veto power to the agents.
متن کاملNetwork Location Problem with Stochastic and Uniformly Distributed Demands
This paper investigates the network location problem for single-server facilities that are subject to congestion. In each network edge, customers are uniformly distributed along the edge and their requests for service are assumed to be generated according to a Poisson process. A number of facilities are to be selected from a number of candidate sites and a single server is located at each facil...
متن کاملUltra-Widband Distributed Amplifier Using Loss Compensation Technique on Both Input and Output Circuit
In this paper, we analyze a distributed amplifier based on input/output attenuation compensation. The analysis is carried out for a HEMT transistor; and a constant-k section filter is used to calculate the amplifier’s characteristics such as attenuation factor, phase constant and gain. The proposed design approach enables us to examine the tradeoff among the variables, which include the type an...
متن کاملImplementing Social Choice Correspondences using k-Strong Nash Equilibrium zizxag dxiga zen`zd yenin
In this work we generalize the theorems of Maskin[Mas99] and of Benoı̂t and Ok[BO06]. We weaken the no veto power condition of Maskin and limited veto power of Benoı̂t and Ok to no veto power of degree m and a generalization of it, limited veto power of degree m. We define the notion of implementability of a social choice correspondence using k-strong Nash equilibrium. We prove that any monotone ...
